Maybe he didn’t care that much about Omri and the crew as much. As some fans have pointed out (and which I will have to look for the next time I see the movie), his “memento” did not last for the entirety of ‘The Force Awakens,’ as he seems to have two golden arms again by the end of the film (again, that is something I’m going to have to confirm for myself next time I see the movie). That said, I honestly didn’t realise until yesterday that C-3PO got his normal arm colour back by the end of The Force Awakens. Based on how quiet C-3PO is about what happened, I believe we can safely assume the story will be somewhat poignant, though how much it will really tie into ‘The Force Awakens’ is anyone’s guess. “C-3PO is uncharacteristically quiet when it comes to discussing his salvaged arm it is a memento of another droid’s sacrifice.”įortunately for those us of who find this interesting, the Marvel/Lucasfilm comic people are already getting ready to release this complete story of C-3PO’s adventure with this mysterious droid, in the Marvel ‘C-3PO’ one -shot comic, which will be written by James Robinson and illustrated by Tony Harris. Leia, with Poe, BB-8, and C-3PO (with his proper arm replaced), watches the next generation of Jedi begin her journey. (I believe the exact quote it: “You probably don’t recognize me with my red arm.”) According to a new companion book to ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ the addition of the red arm to 3PO’s body is the result of an untold story of another droid, something which C-3PO does not discuss in the film. In the film itself, the only mention made of the new appendage is a humorous moment when C-3PO re-introduces himself to Han Solo, as the droid is worried that the man might not recognize him with his new red arm. I can’t say I was blown away by this single issue C-3PO, despite the welcome detour into droid morality and memory trauma.Of all the mysteries opened up during ‘ Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ the story of how and why C-3PO has his new arm may not seem the most compelling question to have answered, which is probably why Lucasfilm is already letting us know through books and comics instead of waiting for ‘Episode VIII.’ The comic’s almost a double a normal monthly issue at 37 pages but it weighs in at $4.99, the expensive end of comics. I can’t help but think that this comic was designed to come out either just before or at the same time as the movie, but it overran somehow. The art style itself reminds me more of the stylised messy artwork from 2000AD than that representing the Star Wars universe.īB-8 and Poe Dameron both make brief but welcome appearances here, though oddly Poe is hidden away behind the star fighter breathing mask. It doesn’t break the comic but it’s a strange editorial choice. It would have been much better to show more emotion through body language. This might work with people, but the droids here don’t have faces that can express emotion, so the close-ups are pointless. Mostly for the art direction, which has the questionable choice of doing close-up face shots for the droids that are talking or being talked about. The cover by Tony Harrison is great, a classic shiny C-3PO with a oil paint styled backdrop. By signing up you agree to our terms of use Thank you for signing up! Keep an eye on your inbox. The droids, including one droid on the side of the First Order, then have to work together to escape the merciless planet they find themselves on. I f you know someone at the Guinness Book of World Records, do Anthony Daniels a. We open with a starship crash landing on a planet the resulting explosion kills or destroys everyone on board but six droids, one of whom is Goldenrod. Anthony Daniels, the man behind C-3PO in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.'. It’s in one language right now three million other languages are possible later, but I wouldn’t bet on it. The story of C-3POunfolds in the release of the comic C-3PO from writer James Robinson, artist Tony Harris, letterer VC’s Joe Caramanga. Now we get some answers to this harmless puzzle at last from the prissy droid himself – with a little help from Marvel. The movie never explains either how C-3PO got a red arm or why it’s suddenly replaced again. Near the end of the movie in the last big group scene, his arm is golden once more. A bright red left arm to be precise – remember this it’s important for the puns later. If you’ve watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and most of you have, going by the global box office take of over $2 billion, you know that during the movie, C-3PO makes his reappearance with a new and very different arm.
